Homework Policy
Regular Assigned Homework
Homework is the follow-up of topics we develop during our regular class period. Every time a student is given homework, it will be designed to make the student reinforce the subject matter at hand and strengthen its understanding. I will always grant enough time for students to complete homework in a fair time frame. However, if the student was not to turn in homework in due time, a daily penalty will be applied. A 10% fine will be applied every calendar day the homework set is late from the original due date, having therefore a maximum of 10 calendar days to turn in the late work. In all fairness, after 10 calendar days have passed, the child will be awarded a 0% grade.
Homework and Absence
It is important to mention that if the student was absent at the time the assignment was given, the child is required to make up the missing work as soon as possible. Advisable, the student should see me the day he/she is back to school and set up a time frame when the assignment should be turned in, without any penalty being applied. However, if the student does not make contact with me in due time, the original late work penalty will therefore be apply.
Special Circumstances
As a teacher and parent, I understand that circumstances may arise at a moment's notice. If a students is not able to complete an assignment on time because of a family/health circumstance beyond his/her control, a note or email from a parent/guardian is kindly requested. In that situation, I will agree on a new due date with the student that will allow him/her to perform the assignment properly. However, a timely communication from the parent/guardian is requested the day the assignment is due.
